What should I expect as a live-in carer?

As a live-in carer, you will be expected to live in your client’s home for the duration of a rota and provide professional care and support. Your care duties may involve everything from help with personal care and hygiene, daily activities such as light cooking and housekeeping, conversation and companionship, or support managing specialist conditions. Live-in carers often work in teams of two and take turns caring for the same client.At The Good Care Group, we aim to keep the same care team working with each client for the duration of that client’s care. This allows carers and those they care for to build the strong connection needed to provide outstanding care completely tailored to the client’s unique needs.

Am I employed by my client?

No, you will be directly employed by The Good Care Group. As a fully-managed, live-in care service, we recruit, train and manage all of our carers. This allows us to offer a range of  industry-leading benefits designed to help you grow your skills as a professional carer. We provide a number of opportunities for professional development including training, ongoing supervision, coaching, mentoring and workshops.

Where will my client be based?

The Good Care Group is a national company with clients across England, Scotland and The Isle of Man. You will be matched with your client based on compatibility, and not location, so some travelling may be required. You will be reimbursed for any UK travel expenses.

Are there training opportunities?

Accepted Answer

Yes, with The Good Care Group you will have many opportunities to develop your skills, training and qualifications. All successful applicants will attend a live-induction training programme along with additional training, coaching, mentoring, and free webinars and workshops all throughout your career in care. We will even support you through and cover the costs of obtaining your level 2 diploma in working in care services.

Are there live-in care jobs available for men?

Will I have my own room?

Yes, every live-in carer will receive their own room while on assignment. Your room will be checked by one of our care team staff to make sure it's suitable before your assignment.

Will I receive breaks?

At The Good Care Group, we offer a variety of rotas, or work schedules, so that you can maximise your personal time. For example, you may work two weeks on, two weeks off.

How many hours will I be expected to work?

All your breaks and working hours will be established before your assignment, so there will be no surprises. On average, live-in carers work 8 - 10 hour days, but not necessarily consecutively. We do have carers who have to work night shifts.

What if there is an emergency?

Our carers are never left unsupported. During each assignment you will remain in regular contact with our care management team and may reach out for support from our carer services team 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Each member of our care team also has access to a 24/7 confidential employee advice line.

How quickly can I get started?

Some carers receive an offer in as little as 24 hours. Once all the necessary training and checks are completed, you will begin working as soon as the client agrees to a starting date.

How much do carers get paid?

Pay rates are always calculated according to each carer’s unique skills, qualifications and experience. We offer a competitive salary based on a merit-based progression. This means your live-in carer pay will always be based on your hard-earned skills and experience.

Do you prepare care plans for clients?

Accepted Answer

Yes, during the initial assessment phase your care manager will create a detailed care plan that will include medication, medical conditions and any other relevant information required for your client’s day-to-day care. You’ll be able to easily refer to this care plan as it will be stored in a portable device in the client's home.

Do live-in carers pay council tax?

If your home is empty while you’re living with a client, or if there is nobody living in your home that is liable to pay council tax, then your home will become exempt from paying council tax.

Do I need to be able to drive?

Accepted Answer

A driver’s licence can be beneficial to drive your client to appointments or outings, but it is not necessary. If your client wishes for you to drive their vehicle, we suggest that you be added to their insurance policy. If you do drive, a valid UK driver’s licence will be necessary.
