Good Care Together

Is working as a home carer right for you?

Working in home care is an immensely rewarding career that allows you to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life. During every one of your placements, you’ll have the opportunity to provide bespoke care and support for someone in need.

As a professional carer with The Good Care Group, you will provide support to individuals or couples in their own homes. No two days on the job are alike. You will provide assistance with a variety of daily tasks such as discreet and sensitive personal care, meal preparation and cooking, prompting medication and light housekeeping.

With live-in care, our professional home carers move directly into a client’s home to provide them with round-the-clock care, companionship and support. The care we provide is bespoke and highly- personalised so that our clients can enjoy a better quality of life.

We are also proud to announce that we will be building upon our award-winning live-in care services to provide hourly care initially based in West London.

With hourly care, our expert home carers will visit our clients at home for as little as one hour through to as many visits as are needed throughout the week. Our professional hourly carers assist with everything from making lunch, sensitive personal care and helping our clients get out and about in the local community.

Entry-level care jobs where no professional experience is required

While we only have a limited number of carer vacancies for people with no professional care experience, we are always interested in hearing from compassionate people with an interest in caring for others. To support those who have limited care experience and ensure they attain the high standards we expect of all of our carers, we have developed a Step Into Care programme. The aim of this programme is to upskill those with transferable experience so that they are equipped to be a professional live-in carer. Part of this programme also enables you to gain qualifications in first aid, moving and handling and the Care Certificate – all of which are mandatory for professional carers at The Good Care Group.

The main qualities we look for when hiring are compassion, patience and empathy for others, along with practical skills such as the ability to multi-task and communicate well with others. At The Good Care Group, we can help you develop both your professional and clinical skills. This will enable you to progress further in your career so that you can earn a competitive salary without having to pursue further qualifications.

Training as a carer

Training, supervision, coaching and mentoring are available to all our carers. You will be given the chance to reach your potential with opportunities for professional development and career progression.

We provide an industry-leading, five-day induction training programme that will give you the necessary skills to deliver our exceptional care. You’ll be taught carer skills, innovative care techniques and the knowledge needed to enable our clients to live safely and well at home.

Over these five days, you’ll experience a variety of training techniques, including hands-on applied learning, e-learning, reflective practice, workshops and practical learning and assessment. If you already have prior experience in care, the course will refresh and further develop your knowledge. For those that don’t have previous care experience, you will then be required to complete the Step Into Care Programme so that you have the additional skills and knowledge needed to become a professional carer with The Good Care Group.

This is also the ideal opportunity for the care team to get to know you and make an informed match with one of our clients.

Carer qualifications

Although formal qualifications are not required to become a carer, they are advantageous as they indicate a practical level of skill and training.

As your career progresses with The Good Care Group, there will be plenty of opportunities to fulfil your potential with further qualifications. We support training in Health and Social Care to Diploma Level as well as the opportunity for advanced training towards specialisation in a specific or complex condition.

We also provide informative webinars that will keep you up-to-date on insights and developments in the industry. Our online learning platform enables you to document your learning so that you can create your own professional development record.

Working in the UK

Although previous experience is not always required to join our team, we do have other formal requirements:

  • Eligibility to work in the UK
  • Ability to pass the Enhanced Disclosure checks by the Disclosure Barring Service
  • If you have lived outside of the UK for 12 months or more in the last five years, you will need to apply for an overseas police clearance
  • Two written and two verbal references
