What is palliative care?

Palliative care offers personalised support and treatment for those living with a life-limiting illness such as cancer, Parkinson’s, and advanced dementia.

This specialised support is often thought of as being only for the end-of-life stage. In reality, it’s designed to improve quality of life for your loved one at any stage of a life-limiting illness. That includes managing symptoms, encouraging independence and choice, and offering emotional support, whenever needed.

A leading palliative care provider in the UK

For the past fifteen years, we’ve supported hundreds of families across England and Scotland, ensuring loved ones can live well at home, with dignity and independence.

We take the time to match your loved one with a fully-qualified carer who can support them to continue doing what they love, while encouraging independence at home.

And, with a dedicated care manager, they’ll receive a detailed care plan based on their unique preferences, health needs and lifestyle. So you can rest assured that your loved one is receiving the very best care, built around them.

What is palliative care at home?

At The Good Care Group, our nurse-led palliative care services allow your loved one to receive personalised support in the place they feel most comfortable – at home.

Similar to our live in care service, a carer will move into the home to provide full-time support and companionship, whenever needed.

One of our expert care managers will take the time to get to know your loved one’s needs and wishes, creating a care plan that’s built around them. We’ll also match your loved one with a carer who understands their personality, ensuring you receive care that feels comforting and familiar.

What are the benefits of palliative care at home?

There are many benefits to receiving palliative care at home. From familiar surroundings to the reassurance of being close to loved ones. It’s a way to feel comfortable and supported in the place they love most.

Why choose The Good Care Group?

With award-winning palliative care, your loved one can maintain their independence and quality of life in the place they love most.

In-house carer training

All of our carers complete a training programme developed by in-house clinicians before being assigned to a placement. Plus, they’ll receive additional enhanced training for complex care needs.

Fully managed service

We are not a care agency. We directly employ, train, and supervise all of our carers. That means you’ll receive consistent, reliable support, from carers we know and trust.

Dementia care experts

Our in-house experts, including Consultant Admiral Nurse, Dr Jane Pritchard, lead and support our care teams to deliver compassionate dementia care, at every stage of the condition.

Award-winning care

We’ve won more awards than any other home care provider for our service, training and culture. Including a Home Care Award, and a National Dementia Care Award.

What does palliative care include?

Our palliative care service is designed to be highly-personalised, and tailored to your loved one’s needs. We’ll conduct a free care consultation before care starts to develop a detailed care plan, which can include different types of support such as:

What is the difference between end-of-life and palliative care?

Both palliative care and end-of-life care are designed to bring comfort, dignity, and support to your loved one and your family, but they meet different needs at different times.

Palliative care can begin immediately following a diagnosis of a life-limiting illness. Its primary focus is on improving quality of life for as long as possible, which is achieved through expert symptom management, emotional support, and companionship.

End-of-life care, on the other hand, is specifically for when someone is approaching the final weeks or days of life. Delivered during this final stage, it ensures comfort, peace, and dignity, while offering gentle guidance and bereavement support for loved ones.

Both types of care can be delivered at home, helping you and your family feel supported, reassured, and cared for in the place that matters most.

Short term care or respite care

For loved ones who may be nearing end-of-life, we can provide flexible palliative care, designed in a way that works for you.

Whether that’s 24-hour live-in care for more complex needs, or as short-term care, or respite care, which allows a family carer to take a much-needed break.

Short-term care services can also provide the opportunity to experience how live-in care works and whether it is the right choice for your loved one.
