Mental health care at home

Discover expert-led mental health care in the place you feel safest: at home. Contact us today and learn how our person-centred approach can support your lifestyle.

What is mental health home care?

Mental health home care allows you to continue living at home, while receiving the expert care you need. This can include short-term respite care, or full-time live-in care. Whatever you require, we’re here to ensure safe, effective care aligned with clinical guidance.

Our experienced support workers offer practical and emotional assistance at home designed to prioritise your dignity, independence, and well-being.

We use established outcome-based approaches, like the Outcomes Star method, to support structured goal-setting and progress monitoring. This allows us to deliver highly-personalised care that is regularly reviewed and adapted according to your unique needs.

Who can benefit from mental health home care?

Our mental health care service supports those who experience:

  • Complex conditions: that includes those living with depression, personality disorders, dual diagnosis, and hoarding disorder.
  • Loneliness: mental health home care offers valuable companionship for those experiencing loneliness.
  • Difficulty with daily routine: with personal care support and medication management, we can help you maintain your well-established daily routine.
  • Family carer burnout: we can support family carers with expert respite care from as little as two weeks.

Trusted across Scotland

As a fully regulated home care provider, we’re regularly inspected by the Care Inspectorate (CI) in Scotland. We adhere to strict standards of care and safety, so you can trust that your care is in expert hands.

Why choose mental health care at home?

For those living with a mental health condition such as anxiety or depression, feeling safe is vital for effective symptom management. And for many of us, nowhere feels as secure as home.

By receiving expert care in the comfort of home, we’ll support you to make your own decisions about your care.

Why choose The Good Care Group?

With exceptional mental health home care, you can maintain your quality of life in the place you love most.

In-house support worker training

All of our support workers complete a training programme developed by in-house clinicians before being assigned to a placement. Plus, they’ll receive additional enhanced training for complex care needs.

Fully managed service

We are not a care agency. We directly employ, train, and supervise all of our support workers. That means you’ll receive consistent, reliable care from people we know and trust.

Complex care experts

Our in-house experts, including Clinical Lead Sabah Shah, lead and support our care teams to deliver compassionate mental health care.

Award-winning care

We’ve won more awards than any other home care provider for our service, training and culture. Including a Home Care Award, and a National Dementia Care Award.

Getting started with mental health home care

Our experienced team will take the time to understand your needs, answer your questions, and guide you through the care options available.

Then, we’ll conduct a thorough risk assessment, working carefully with you, your family, and your medical team to ensure that home care will be both safe and effective.*

From initial assessment to thoughtfully matched support workers, we make starting mental health home care clear, supportive, and focused on what matters most: life at home.

*Our mental health support does not include the use of physical restraint.

Clinical framework & risk assessment

Our mental health home care is underpinned by a clear clinical framework and robust risk assessment process. We work closely with individuals, their families, and appointed Powers of Attorney (POAs) to ensure that care at home is the safest and most appropriate option, with risks clearly identified, managed, and regularly reviewed.

We take a collaborative, multi-disciplinary approach, working alongside Community Mental Health Teams (CMHTs), Community Psychiatric Nurses (CPNs), district nurses, GPs, and other healthcare professionals.

Highly trained support workers

We’re proud to hold high recruitment standards, with only 2% of applicants joining our support team. This ensures that you’ll be paired with a compassionate, highly skilled support worker who we know and trust.

Every support worker also completes in-depth mental health training before starting placement, focused on understanding mental health conditions, reducing stigma, recognising risk, and creating safety and trust at home. This includes mental health first aid, professional boundaries, and knowing when and how to escalate concerns.

With 24-hour access to their care manager, our support workers always have the tools they need to deliver the very best care.

Margaret’s story

Living with dementia and depression

When Margaret began receiving home care with The Good Care Group, she was living with early-stage dementia and depression. Following a fall, Margaret had become withdrawn from her community, struggled with her daily routines, and had lost confidence in her mobility, making tasks like housework and cooking increasingly difficult.

Our care team worked closely with Margaret, her family, and her healthcare team to create a care plan designed to support both her independence and her mental health. Recognising her dual diagnosis, we focused on setting achievable goals – such as gradually re-engaging with simple household tasks – while providing compassionate dementia care and companionship.

Over time, Margaret became more engaged in everyday activities and began attending local community groups once again. With consistent, personalised care, she regained her confidence and mobility, knowing she had support whenever it was needed.
