British actress Carey Mulligan is to lead the Alzheimer’s Society running team at the ‘Run to the Beat’ half marathon which takes place in London on Sunday 8th September.

Carey, who is an Alzheimer’s Society ambassador, has set up a Just Giving sponsorship page to raise money for the event, www.justgiving.com/CareyMulligan01, which details her motivation for taking part:

“My grandmother has dementia, so this is something that’s really so important to me and my family.

By speaking about my grandmother’s dementia I hope to shine a light on the condition that affects 800,000 people across the UK. My family and I rely on the help of organisations like Alzheimer’s Society to help us understand the disease and guide us in the care of my grandmother. I want to help do all I can to support them to defeat dementia and that’s why I’m taking part in Run To The Beat. By sponsoring me, you can help support people with dementia today, and help fund research in a cure for tomorrow.”

Carey will join the team of 90 Alzheimer’s Society fundraisers next month on the 13.1 mile run, which starts and ends in Greenwich Park.
