Developing your care skills: James' story

Developing your care skills: James’ story

At The Good Care Group (TGCG) we are passionate about supporting our colleagues to develop.  Whether that’s enrolling onto a specialist course to assist in their role, attending webinars and workshops or progressing into new roles within the company.  We know our superpower is our people and that it’s so important to provide opportunities for our colleagues to develop their skills and knowledge.

James in our training team plays a key role in organising training opportunities for our Professional Carers.  We caught up with him to learn more about his new role as Training and Compliance Officer.

James joined TGCG back in September 2017 as part of a work experience programme.  It was his first experience of working in the care sector and four years later he hasn’t looked back!

Knowing that everything I do has an impact on the ability to make a difference in someone’s life is so important and makes everything I do feel worthwhile. I’m very proud to work in the care sector – we are supporting people at a time when they need it the most.

In my role I help to organise both the mandatory refresher training and additional learning for our Professional Carers.  I really enjoy working in a role that allows me to support people to progress and develop their knowledge. Being able to suggest a course to a Professional Carer or enrol them onto a course they are particularly interested in is very rewarding.

As well as organising training for our Carers, James is also on hand to offer support and guidance with some of the online systems used at TGCG.

We use a number of online systems at TGCG – it’s a great way to keep everyone updated, connected and saves our Professional Carers valuable time.  It also means we are able to offer a wide range of e-learning courses for our Professional Carers to complete in addition to our face to face training.  Some people may be a bit nervous about using technology they’ve not used before, but I’m here to ensure they have all the help and support they need.”
