Elaine Murray, Area Manager for Kent & Sussex has been awarded the Dementia Friendly Initiative of the Year award at the Community & Voluntary Awards 2019.

The sevenoaks area dementia friendly community forum

Elaine, along with friend and colleague Symone Salwan, of Home Instead Senior Care, has co-chaired the Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community Forum (SADFC) since it began three years ago. The SADFC works to provide various dementia friendly activities and host regular events throughout Kent & Sussex.

Since it began, The Good Care Group has supported the SADFC and seen it grow from strength to strength. We’d like to say a huge congratulations to Elaine and every member of the Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community Forum.

Elaine tells us:

“I am delighted to receive this important award and proud to Co-Chair the Sevenoaks Area Dementia Friendly Community Forum…we have grown the forum over three years to include professional organisations, care providers, solicitors, care homes and charities who come together to work collaboratively with no personal agenda.  SADFC now deliver monthly – 5 ‘Forget-me-not Cafés’, 2 dementia friendly cinemas and the ‘Forget-Me-Notes’ singing group across the district…

…All of the activities SADFC provide are funded by the ‘Run, Walk or Push Against Dementia’ event which takes place in Knole Park in May. We have raised over £12,000 to date, it is a very inclusive and family focused fun morning with 3k, 5k, 10k events for all including the family dog!

Sevenoaks District Council support the event and we simply can’t do it without their media resources and manpower.

2019 will see the third Run, Walk, Push event take place. I am very proud to say The Good Care Group sponsor all of these events and activities. They afford me time to organise and manage them, upholding TGCG’s company ethos of giving back to the community and championing collaborative support for people living with Dementia’’

Run, walk or push 2019

This year Elaine will be organising the Run, Walk or Push event and she has already seen lots of registrations coming in. Run, Walk or Push against Dementia, funds all of the work of the SADFC. To register, download a sponsor form or donate, visit: www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/runwalkpush

We can’t wait to be there cheering everyone along on the day.
