“I’m Jane, Consultant Admiral Nurse for The Good Care Group. I have worked in the care industry since 2001, and in my current role since 2016. Admiral Nurses are specialist nurses who support carers of people with dementia, as well as people with dementia themselves.

Sabah Shah

Clinical Lead, The Good Care Group

"I’m Sabah, the Clinical Lead for the Good Care Group. I joined The Good Care Group in August 2024 and bring over nine years of experience in health and social care. My career in healthcare started with a simple goal: to make a meaningful difference in people’s lives.

Our dementia care model: EVER

Our dementia care model was developed by in-house specialist, Dr Jane Pritchard, to ensure we achieve the very best care for loved ones living with dementia, and their families. EVER stands for:

  • Engagement
  • Validation
  • Enrichment
  • Relationships

From supporting communication, to enabling meaningful connection, the EVER model is designed to help those with dementia to live well, while receiving the care they need.

Read our dementia care models page to learn everything you need to know about this model.

Support for every stage of dementia

Our dedicated carers use strategies tailored to every phase of dementia. During the early stages, we focus on cognitive stimulation and practical support, promoting independent living through active lifestyle choices and memory aids.

As needs evolve into mid stage dementia, our carers work to manage symptoms like anxiety and repetitive behaviours with compassion, adapting physical support and communication styles.

In the late stages, we prioritise dignity and quality of life through sensory engagement, safe mobility techniques, and direct guidance from our in-house clinical experts, supporting proactive medical treatment and fewer health complications.

In-house carer training

All of our carers complete a training programme developed by in-house clinicians before being assigned to a placement. Plus, they’ll receive additional enhanced training for complex care needs.

Fully managed service

We are not a care agency. We directly employ, train, and supervise all of our carers. That means you’ll receive consistent, reliable support, from carers we know and trust.

Dementia care experts

Our in-house experts, including Clinical Lead Sabah Shah, support our care teams to deliver compassionate dementia care at every stage of the condition.

Award-winning care

We’ve won more awards than any other home care provider for our service, training and culture. Including a Home Care Award, and a National Dementia Care Award.

My family member has dementia but was extremely hesitant to have live-in care; the Good Care Group worked with us with great sensitivity and expertise. Now have it all set-up it works really well, with real trust and warmth between client and carers. As well as providing day to day care, they're also proactive in a range of other ways in helping to improve her life. There are regular reviews to keep checking everyone's happy, and I receive detailed, daily information on how things are going which is very reassuring.

What is dementia?

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe the symptoms that occur when the brain is affected by certain diseases or conditions.

Each type of dementia has its own set of characteristics, and affects the brain in a different way. Alzheimer’s disease is the most common type of dementia, affecting between 50 and 75 per cent of those diagnosed.

Who is affected by dementia?

  • 850,000 people in the UK
  • 1 in 6 people over the age of 80
  • 70% of people in care homes
  • 42,000 people under the age of 65
  • 25,000+ people from black, Asian, and minority ethnic backgrounds in the UK.

Dementia care for couples

Live in care at home is a cost-effective option for couples who wish to remain together, while receiving the care they need. Unlike traditional care homes, in which you would be required to have two care packages, we offer a fixed package for couples who share the same address.

That means your loved one can continue to live independently in the home they love, with their partner by their side. And you can have peace of mind knowing they are both receiving the very best care.

How can dementia care be provided at home?

  • 24-hour care: a professional carer will move into the home to provide support and reassurance whenever it is needed.
  • Respite care: short-term support, from as little as two-weeks.
  • Short-term and intermediate care: when care is needed quickly, we can arrange live in support within 48 hours.
  • Complex care: specialist and nurse-led care for loved ones with dementia
  • End-of-life care: gentle, respectful care that follows your loved one’s wishes.

What is the cost of dementia care?

The cost of live in care for dementia patients is typically in line with, and sometimes less than, what you would pay for residential care, with the added peace of mind that comes with receiving one-to-one tailored care which isn’t possible in a care home setting.
