Balancing self care whilst working with The Good Care Group

Striking a work-life balance is crucial for our wellbeing and the wellbeing of those we care for. So how can we manage this delicate equilibrium effectively?

Self-care is a vital practice that helps us maintain our mental, emotional, and physical health. It includes activities that rejuvenate and restore us. When we neglect self-care, we risk burnout, stress, and fatigue, which in turn can impact our ability to be present and supportive for others.

Before you can care for others effectively, you need to acknowledge and address your own needs.

  • Self awareness: Regularly check in with yourself to assess your stress levels, emotional state, and physical health.
  • Rest: Ensure you get enough sleep and use your break and downtime to replenish your energy.

Integrating self-care into your daily life doesn’t have to be time-consuming. Small, consistent practices can make a significant difference:

  • Mindfulness: Engage in mindfulness practices such as meditation or journaling to help manage stress and enhance self-awareness.
  • Physical Activity: Incorporate exercise into your routine, whether it’s a brisk walk, a yoga session, or a workout during your break.

At The Good Care Group (TGCG) we have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP) to support you with any challenges that could impact your well-being, health, or work performance. This independent and completely confidential service is available 24/7 via phone, email, or online. It offers information, resources, and counselling to help you navigate any issues life may bring.

Share your challenges and needs with friends, family, or colleagues. We’ve developed our Carer Community which is a forum for our carers. It’s a great opportunity to share your experiences, encouragement and tips on what helps you and how you can support others.

Caring for others is deeply fulfilling but can also be demanding. At TGCG, support is always available. We hold monthly catch-ups and one-on-one meetings, providing regular opportunities for you to share your feelings, discuss your workload, and address any job-related stress.

Effective communication is key to balancing self-care with caring for others. You can advise us on how much contact you need, these catch-ups are there for you to be open about your needs and limitations. Clear communication helps manage expectations and ensures that both your needs and those of others are acknowledged and addressed.

Finding harmony between self-care and caring for others is an art that requires self-awareness, planning, and adaptability. We offer a supportive environment and are here for you 24/7.
