At The Good Care Group we provide respite for a variety of reasons; giving a family member a break from caring for a loved one, allowing family to take a family holiday or simply giving people the opportunity to experience live-in care before making their final decision.
Our Scotland based Professional Live-in Carers have provided some respite stories for us to share, that illustrate how our short term care supports families and loved one.
E lives with her husband J, who is her full time carer with assistance from hourly care twice per day. E has frontotemporal dementia which affects her speech, E also suffers from epilepsy and spends most of her day in bed.
Since her diagnosis in 2011 J has not left her side, even for one night. J was wanting to go on holiday but was not feeling comfortable leaving E. The Good Care Group made it possible for J to go to a holiday park along with E and 2 carers and the lodge was all adapted for E.
J was nervous as they had not trialled a holiday together before, however we are now delivering respite care for the 4th time in a different holiday park. J feels so comfortable now that he does go out daily and spends time exploring where he is and not worrying about E. With our support J has his own time to do what he wants to do which is amazing and he has been so thankful every time
