“With live-in care I can support my client to live the life they want to live. I really enjoy having the time to spend with my clients and focusing on companionship. We can do all the things they enjoy that you just wouldn’t have time for if this was a traditional domiciliary care role where you might only have 30 minutes.” Says Professional Live-in Carer Sarah. “One of my clients is even teaching me French at the moment! In another placement I’m learning how to play the piano and my client loves putting on mini concerts when her family comes to visit”.
Working as a live-in Carer you have the time to care and build meaningful relationships. There’s no rushing from client to client and as you’ll be matched with an ongoing client you will get to know them really well, understanding their likes and dislikes and ways in which you can really enhance their quality of life. How many people can truly say that about their job?
We hear so many lovely stories from our Professional Carers about the things they have done with their clients because they have the time to go the extra mile. Professional Carer Michelle is currently working in Scotland and along with her Carer colleague helped their client celebrate Burns night in style.
“Myself and Sharee provided some entertainment for Miss W prior to having supper for celebrating Burns Night. We played “Scotland The Brave” on the bagpipes first, then Sharee recited three verses of the traditional “Address To A Haggis”. We then served her a haggis, neeps & tatties (with braised red cabbage) supper followed by my homemade cranachan, which she found was delicious. Miss W really enjoyed the evening and really appreciated what we did. We’ve also been able to take her to the National Museum of Scotland which she thoroughly enjoyed.”

Having the time to learn what your client’s interests are means you can share some great experiences together. Whether that’s feeding the birds in the garden, celebrating traditions with family or the simple joy of engaging in conversation about old memories, there is always something to enjoy.
