Musical Memories for Elderly Wards at St Peters Hospital

Events, News

Last week St. Peter's Hospital in Surrey welcomed The Good Care Group and Michelle Jueno to sing on their Care of the Elderly Wards.

It was welcomed by all patients, families, and staff who could see straight away the benefit of how uplifting music can make everyone feel.

Older patients on Swan, Cedar, Cherry, Swift and Holly wards were taken down a trip to memory lane. The patients were serenaded by the melodious tones of singer Michelle Juengo who encouraged the patients to take part in old classics including Que Cera Cera, Danny Boy, Somewhere over the Rainbow, Oh what a beautiful morning and Cliff Richard's Summer Holiday.

The most encouraging and memorable moment was when a lady with dementia who used movement with her arms to connect with the songs.

Sangeeta Singadia, based at St Peter's Hospital who organises events for the patients responded,

'It was really great to have Michelle to entertain the patients. Thank you so much... Still quite emotional about the day.'

Music for patients, especially those living with dementia, can have a very positive impact on the person.

We would like to personally thank Sangeeta and St Peter's for welcoming us into their wards and to Michelle Jueno for providing such beautiful music for the patients. We hope to continue to provide this service to many more wards across the country.
