Live-in Carer diary – Rajinder’s story

Rajinder joined The Good Care Group in 2018 and has worked in the health and social care sector for over 30 years.  Rajinder says “I enjoy being able to make a difference and to support my client in their life’s journey.”

Rajinder has been supporting a 92 year old woman to remain living in the home she loves.  She shares her experiences from her placement with us below:

“As a live-in Carer you support your client with the things that are important to them. My client likes watching documentaries, the news and old movies, and she likes to plan her day around her favourite TV programmes.  I support her to keep in touch with her friends and family, whether that’s calling them on their birthday or responding to them via email.  She’s very good at responding to her emails and being able to keep in touch in this way really helps her, especially during lockdown.

Very often she will want a little nap mid-morning and I can use this time to prepare lunch or do some housework.  We have a carer who comes in during the afternoon so that I can take my break and that’s when my client likes to have lunch.  I will have prepared everything so that it is ready for them to warm up.

Later in the day we often chat about how the day has gone.  We sit and look through the family photo albums and she tells me stories about her past, or we might talk about things that are going on in the world. She really enjoys the companionship and that is an important part of the care that we can provide.”
