Lucia De Sousa, of The Good Care Group, recently spent time with the actors who are performing in The Father, a play starring Kenneth Cranham and Claire Skinner. Lucia talked to them about her experiences of working with people suffering with dementia, helping them to understand the condition in preparation for their roles.
The play is about the life of Andre (Cranham), an elderly man with dementia and the efforts of daughter Anne (Skinner) to balance her love for her father and the need to care for him with the demands of her own life and relationship with her partner.
The play opened at the Theatre Royal, Bath, and has now moved on to The Tricycle Theatre in London.
