ADAPT with The Good Care Group - The Good Care Group

ADAPT with The Good Care Group

Did you know over 60% of our clients are living with dementia of some type? It’s very important for our professional carers to feel equipped to provide the right support, to enable our clients to live well with dementia.

Earlier this year  Dr Jane Pritchard and Occupational Therapist, Jackie Cooper,  launched our new model for dementia care ‘EVER’. The model of dementia care, EVER, stands for ‘Engagement, Validation, Enrichment and Relationships.’ This focuses on providing a person-centred approach which focuses on an individual’s needs, while helping carers better support family members to enhance their relationships with loved ones. This new model works hand in hand with our ADAPT course, Adapting to Dementia Advanced level Programme with TGCG.

Dignity and respect are at the forefront of everything we do. Our highly trained carers work closely with those living with dementia to learn about their past, personality and preferences. Whether it is helping with social activities or simply listening, they take the time to understand the person being cared for and look for ways to enhance their quality of life in a way that respects their choices and preferences.  The people we care for are all very different, so the care we provide must be every bit as individual. It takes specialist training to fully understand the challenges your client faces and to deliver highly tailored, personal support. When you join our care team, part of your induction will focus on providing outstanding dementia care. But for those Carers supporting clients with more complex dementia care needs, or for those who want to further develop their knowledge about dementia, we also offer an advanced dementia course, ADAPT.

What is the ADAPT course?

The course is made up of a series of webinars from our Occupational Therapist, Jackie Cooper and our Consultant Admiral Nurse, Dr Jane Pritchard. Over the course of six – eight weeks you will learn more about providing the best care possible to your client and learning new skills that will help you in your day to day role. We’re passionate about providing opportunities for our teams to develop their knowledge, should they wish, and our ADAPT training is just one part of our commitment to you. All of our learning opportunities are designed so that you feel confident, supported and excited to put your learning into practice.

The ADAPT course in enhancing carers’ ability to support clients living with dementia. Building on the initial training received during induction, the course deepens carers’ understanding of dementia-related conditions. It also equips them with effective communication tools and strategies to reduce agitation and engage clients in activities suited to their abilities. Additionally, the course offers carers the chance to reflect on their experiences, share ideas, and exchange resources to further improve their practice. The course is available to all carers in their learning pool.
