The Contented Dementia Trust (formerly known as SPECAL) is a UKdementia charity which has as its aim the promotion of lifelong well-being for the person with dementia. This is achieved through a unique understanding of the person’s experience of dementia, and a clear focus on the need for a counter-intuitive caring response. The SPECAL method, which has been developed on the basis of this particular understanding of dementia and is described in the book ‘Contented Dementia’ by Oliver James, has been incorporated in the Contented Dementia Trust. The Good Care Group is working with the Contented Dementia Trust to pioneer the delivery of the SPECAL method in the home care sector, enabling our clients to be reassured that we will continue to deliver the very best in care as we work to improve the quality of life of the person with dementia.
