Dementia Awareness Week 4th – 10th July 2010

The Good Care Group and a number of leading charities are raising awareness of dementia this week as part of Dementia Awareness Week.  Charities including our Charity of the Year, Dementia UK and the Alzheimer’s Society will be highlighting the plight of the 750,000 people in the UK who are living with the condition,  as well as their families and carers who support them.  Dementia UK are extending the hours of their helpline service, Admiral DIRECT and the Alzheimer’s Society will be promoting its ‘Remember the person’ campaign, which encourages people to look beyond the dementia and at the individual.

On Sunday 27th June, the Telegraph in association with the Alzheimer’s Society produced a dementia supplement to mark the start of Dementia Awareness Week.  It includes interesting articles from author Sir Terry Pratchett OBE who suffers with a rare form of early-onset Alzheimer’s and ex-broadcaster, Angela Rippon whose mother is living with dementia.
